About this listing

Located in the ‘Disputed Lands’ on the border between Scotland and England, this site has lovely views over the rolling hills to the south and into Kielder Forest – England’s man-made largest forest. The vast open skies provide a backdrop for the extraordinary bird life: lapwings, curlew, snipe, sky larks together with oyster catchers, greylag geese and duck which nest on the lake.

Guests have permission to walk across the 42 acre site, which is being bought back into production using regenerative farming techniques. Susan’s aim is to preserve a variety of habitats to encourage an abundance of flora and fauna. Explore grazed meadows, a wildflower meadow, the lake, ancient wood and the Black Lyne River. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of otters on the river; whilst deer, hare and badger are all regular residents.

From the site, you can walk down into Kershope Forest which runs into Kielder Forest, which has miles of tracks for cycling and walking. Being on the edge of the second largest area of protected night sky in Europe, there is amazing stargazing. Kielder Observatory is ranked as the best place to see stars in the UK, as the skies can be so dark that the Milky Way and even the planet Jupiter can cast shadows.

Access is straight off a country lane, parking on stone just inside the entrance gate.

This is a leave no trace site. All guests must bring their own toilet facilities, and dispose of waste responsibly.
